I Never Planned to Become a Breathwork Facilitator

If you had told me a few years ago that I would eventually become a breathwork facilitator, I probably would have looked at you like you were a little crazy. Mostly because the first time I experienced breathwork, I honestly had no idea what it was or what I had gotten myself into.

I was introduced to breathwork by my dear friend and business coach, Lauryn. I experienced my first session at the end of the first coaching container I did with her, during what was a pretty major transition in my life.

I had joined the container shortly before moving out of the home I shared with my ex and beginning the process of navigating my divorce. It was one of those seasons where I was carrying a lot, even if I didn't always realize just how much I was holding onto.

So... what actually is breathwork?

There are many different styles of breathwork, but at its core, breathwork is the intentional use of your breath to create shifts within the body and support the nervous system. For me, breathwork gave me a way to get out of my head and back into my body.

Which is part of why I think breathwork can be such a powerful tool. Most often we don’t need to think more. We need a way to actually release what we’ve been carrying and reconnect with our bodies.

From there, I started exploring breathwork more deeply at women’s retreats and private 1:1 sessions with Lauryn, giving me the chance to experience the practice in completely different ways.

I’ve also experienced breathwork with other local practitioners over the years (I’m looking at you Anayat and Karli), and one of the things I’ve grown to love about this modality is that every facilitator brings something a little different to the experience.

The more I experienced it for myself, the more I started to understand just how powerful something as simple as our breath can be.

My experience with breathwork became physical, too

One of the most surprising parts of breathwork for me has been noticing just how much tension I carry in my body.

I have dealt with a pretty significant hip injury for years, and after one particular breathwork session, I remember getting up and feeling like I was literally walking differently.

It wasn't that breathwork magically "fixed" my hip. But I could feel how much I had been gripping and holding throughout my body without even realizing it.

That experience made me even more curious about the connection between our emotions, our nervous system, our breath, and the way we physically move through the world. As I've stepped deeper into the world of wellness and movement, that connection has become a really important part of the way I think about taking care of ourselves.

Sometimes we need to talk. Sometimes we need to move. Sometimes we need to breathe. And sometimes we just need enough space to actually hear ourselves again.

A very full-circle moment

The funny part is, becoming a facilitator was never really part of the plan. (But clearly, it was meant to find me.)

When Lauryn hosted her first breathwork facilitator training, I helped her behind the scenes with the event. At the time, I was still very much in my event planning era, so I thought I was simply there to help bring her vision to life.

But in addition to helping behind the scenes, I connected with some incredible people and honestly learned so much myself just by being in the room. The entire experience was incredibly moving, and looking back now, I can see that I was being introduced to work that I would eventually be doing too.

Lauryn had since talked about hosting another training and having me assist again. But when the second training finally came around, I think we both knew I needed to attend this one. Going from working behind the scenes at her first training to becoming a student in the second felt incredibly full circle.

By then, I had already been feeling pulled toward the wellness space for a long time. So when the opportunity came to actually learn how to hold this kind of space for someone else, it felt like one of those moments when suddenly everything made so much sense looking back.

Now I get to share it with you

Breathwork has given me a space to be vulnerable, move through emotions I didn't always have words for, reconnect with my body, and create a little more room for myself during seasons when I really needed it.

Now, I'm incredibly excited to be able to hold that space for other people and I just launched my private 1:1 breathwork sessions!

I've intentionally designed these sessions to feel spacious. The whole experience is meant to give you space to slow down and actually be with yourself. We’ll connect before we begin, move through the breathwork together, and leave plenty of room afterward to process, reflect, and just let the experience land.

If you've been curious about breathwork or feel like you could use some intentional space to reconnect with yourself, I'd love to connect. Reach out to learn more or book a consultation and we can talk about what a private session could look like for you.

I would love to breathe with you!
